Arvind Kejriwal Facts – All You Need to Know

Arvind Kejriwal won the Delhi elections once again to take over as the chief minister of India. He swears in tomorrow (14th February 2015) as the chief minister of New Delhi for the second time, after he resigned his post in 2014. He is the leader of the AAP (Aam Aadhmi Party) and the motto of this political body is to eliminate corruption from India. With that being said, the logo of the AAP is a broom.

Arvind Kejriwal was born on 16th August 1968, a day after India’s Independence Day. He is the eldest son of  Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur as a Mechanical Engineer, he joined Tata Steel in 1989. Arvind Kejriwal resigned in 1993 to pursue his goal to become an IAS officer. Even in his early days, Kejriwal volunteered with The Missionaries of Charity after meeting Mother Teresa. He later joined the Income Tax as an Assistant Commissioner in 1995.
He resigned in 2006, after being on leave for three years. Arvind Kejriwal faced a lot of problems in the Income Tax Department because of his anti corruption activities and also because he did not cooperate with his higher officials in corruption. Later on, Arvind Kejriwal  started two organizations, namely Parivartan and Kabir. Later on, Kejriwal popularized anti corruption activities and Indian citizens voted him to be the Chief Minister of Delhi on 28th December 2013. This was when he popularized the Jan Lokpal Bill, but since he was not able to implement it because of non cooperation with other parties, Arvind Kejriwal  resigned on 14 February 2014 as Chief Minister of Delhi.

He never wanted to take part in part in politics after that and his term of 45 days was the shortest ever. However, his friends and party members persuaded him to get back into politics, since he was the only hope for the nation. On the same February 14th this year, Kejriwal takes position as the Chief Minister of Delhi beating his rival parties BJP and the Indian National Congress by a huge majority.
